CRPF troopers allegedly thrash driver at Pantha Chowk triggers traffic jam on Kashmir highway

Five people, including two women, were injured on Monday after government forces resorted to teargas shelling to disperse protesters who were demanding an FIR be registered against CRPF troopers who thrashed a driver in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
Reports said that people took to streets and staged a demonstration against the thrashing of a driver by troopers of 29 Bn allegedly after being signaled to stop on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway from Sempora to Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar on Saturday due to a protest against the thrashing of a driver allegedly by the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers.
Reports said that troopers thrashed a driver after he was signaled to stop his vehicle on the highway in Pantha Chowk.

“The driver stopped his vehicle few metres away. This infuriated the troopers who thrashed the driver,” said a report.
The driver parked his vehicle on the road to protest against the CRPF men, it said, adding that hundreds of people, including drivers and commuters, joined the protest soon.
This triggered a massive traffic jam on the highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.

Meanwhile, the injured driver, identified as Firdous Ahmad of Frestbal, was shifted to JVC hospital in Bemina where from he was referred to SKIMS for specialized treatment.
